Olathe Daycare Provider gets 41 Months in Toddler Death.

Jeanette Lawrence ran a home daycare registered to operate and oversee the supervision of not more than six children. On the day of Ava’s death, there were eight more than allowed. A total of 14 children were in the home.
If you have ever been to a toddler or children’s birthday party, think about what it’s like to be around 14 kids at once. Please tell me how one person can deliver the kind of care it takes to supervise a child if there are 14?
Greed. The only logical reason someone would take on 14 kids at once. It’s not because it would be fun day in and day out. I am sure that Jeanette had her time of being a great child service provider. That has ended.
I am more familiar with the home she cared out of than most. It was a home I visited as a child and I can tell you that it is not a conducive floor plan to 14 kids. In fact the only floor plan I can think of as conducive would be a classroom.
Judge Franklin Davis did what any one of us would do in this case and sentenced Ms. Lawrence to the maximum sentence of 41-months. I know that the law limits these sentences and there is a reason. I will tell you that I am sure the entire Kansas City community feels for the Patricks. Hopefully this can be a story to learn from for other child providers and they will think twice before breaking the parameters of there registrations and licenses.
